What is this Beanie Knitting Pattern?

It’s summer here and nearing 100 degrees, but fall is never far from my mind. Fall is my favorite season. The cool, crisp air and the smell of warm apple cider. Just thinking about it makes me wish the summer away!

Because it is fall in my heart year-round, I’m always looking for new patterns for fall and winter wearables, like scarves, sweaters, and of course beanies!

Beanies are usually comfortable one-size-fits-all head covers. However, for some, like my husband, normal sized beanies don’t always work for him so I end up making his myself most of the time.

Even if a larger than the normal head isn’t the issue, most knitters love knitting beanies! Because beanies work up so quickly, it’s possible to have them in several different colors and patterns to match different outfits.

Beanies make great gifts too! The ribbed pattern makes this a comfortable and stretchy beanie. We think you will want to check out this beanie pattern as much as we did!

How to Work the Beanie Knitting Pattern

The unisex simple cable beanie knitting pattern by Mairin Ni Dhonncha of Aran Accessories is sure to be a hit with knitters. When worked with self-striping yarn, in particular, you get a beautiful finished project!

Solid color comes out beautifully too!

This beanie is worked in the round from the bottom up making it easy to manipulate the length as you go by adding a little before you begin your decreases.

While the initial pattern is for an adult, it wouldn’t be difficult to make smaller for smaller heads, like those of children!

The pattern makes a beanie measuring 19 inches (48 cm) around and 8 ½ inches (22 cm) long (brim to crown).

Skill level

This modern take on the cable knit makes this pattern great for a beginner. Additionally, it is great for a beginner because the gauge isn’t important so you can focus more on learning the cable knit stitch. Also, this beanie is seamless making finishing even easier!

Aran yarn (10-ply, 8 wpi, 4: medium), 110 yards/100 meters

5 mm (US 8) circular needles, unless a different size is recommended on the label for your yarn

No yarn needle needed on this one as this beanie is seamless!
